Highlights From the Annapolis Sailboat Show

textGo Sail Virgin Islands attended the Annapolis Sailboat Show this year, and had an absolute blast– as usual! Held in mid-October, the show is one of the best exhibitions of sailboats in the United States. The Go Sail crew saw countless yachts and new equipment on display, and participated in seminars so they can share the latest knowledge with students this coming year. If you were not able to attend yourself, here are some of the highlights of the Annapolis Sailboat Show 2024:

Meeting Other Sailing Enthusiasts at the Annapolis Sailboat Show

The Annapolis Sailboat Show is a great way to meet other sailors — both professionals and hobbyists! Go Sail Virgin Islands staff was able to meet with the charter company managers and Captain Genevieve noted that the crew, “toured a bunch of really nice boats we will be using.”

At the American Sailing Association Dock Party, Captain Genevieve also met up with Jonathan Payne, the current Chief Marketing Officer and General Manager of American Sailing. She received some exciting news about the future of ASA sailing for students. Stay tuned— these changes will help open up lines of communication between students and instructors and improve ASA students’ digital presence!

Captain Genevieve, Captain JT, and Go Sail’s new assistant manager, Lizzy, were even spotted by previous Go Sail students sailing by! ““They were on a boat touring and saw us go buy in our gear,” Captain Genevieve laughed.

Annapolis Sailboat Show 2024 Seminars

Lizzy and Captain Genevieve attended six seminars over the course of the Annapolis Sailboat Show. This knowledge will help them to better serve Go Sail clients in the future! For Captain Genevieve, a former diesel mechanic, the in-depth discussion on troubleshooting issues with diesel engines on sailboats was particularly interesting.  Captain Genevieve hopes to write her own guide on common electrical issues onboard sailboats and how to fix them in 2025. ““It is really hard to find focused classes in that area, to diagnose different electrical issues on your boat,” Captain Genevieve explained.

The Latest Sailboat Advancements Showcased at the Annapolis Sailboat Show

The biggest changes coming to sailing may be the popularity of electric motors! While none of the sailboats Go Sail currently uses for Learn to Sail Vacations or charters have electric motors, it may not be long before Go Sail becomes an early adopter. Speculation, a solar-powered sailboat Go Sail uses for Learn to Sail vacations in the USVI, may have tech like this in the future!
