What To Do On New Years Eve in the Virgin Islands

“Old Year’s Night,” as we call it in the Virgin Islands, is a magical event when we say goodbye to the previous year while welcoming the next one. Around here, we celebrate wearing flip-flops surrounded by palm trees and white sand. If you want to join us this year, don’t miss these top activities on New Year’s Eve in the Virgin Islands:

Party at Foxy’s Bar and Restaurant

On Jost Van Dyke, the most legendary New Year’s Eve celebration takes place at Foxy’s. Ferries from nearby islands transport revelers through the night so everyone can converge on the small island for flowing drinks, Caribbean BBQ, and nonstop dancing while moko jumbie and fire dancers keep the atmosphere lively. Foxy’s offers different tiers for admission prices, so those who prefer an exclusive experience can enjoy champagne, a multi-course dinner, and a VIP area.

Learn to Sail

While the weather is dreary and cold in the U.S., it is the perfect time for sailing in the Virgin Islands. Make this the year you finally learn to sail on a learn-to-sail vacation. Not only will you earn ASA certification that will allow you to sail on your own in the future, but you will also spend a week sailing around the sunny Virgin Islands. On New Year’s Eve, you can get away from the crowds and watch the fireworks over the bay from onboard the yacht while having a small private party with your crewmates. A sailboat is also a great way to make your way to any of these events and activities— if you are already a certified sailor, you can charter a bareboat from Go Sail Virgin Islands too!

Bar Hop in Cruz Bay

If you’re in St. John, the action is at Cruz Bay, where there are several popular bars and restaurants within walking distance. At the center of it all is The Beach Bar, but just a few steps away, you’ll uncover Lovango Rum Bar, and many more. With so many options in one area, you can spend the night exploring them all. The festivities even spill out onto the streets of the bay, filling with vendors and partygoers.

Stroll the Crucian Christmas Festival

Christmas may be over, but the Crucian Christmas Festival on St. Croix is still in full swing. The large and famed festival always includes New Year’s celebrations and does not close until January 4th. The festival features a family-friendly carnival to usher in the new year with island food, live music, and vibrant costumes, culminating with fireworks over the bay.

Celebrate at Trellis Bay

Another family-friendly option for New Year’s Eve in the Virgin Islands is Trellis Bay on Beef Island. Here, the beating drums of Caribbean folk music accompany some of the best BBQ around and even activities for kids. In addition to spectacular fireworks, local artist Aragorn makes a new “fireball” sculpture every year, which is lit at Trellis Bay on Old Year’s Night.

No matter where you spend New Year’s Eve in the Virgin Islands, you’re sure to usher in the new year with exhilarating parties and stunning island views. We recommend making your reservations early because establishments sell out fast.
