Most Virgin Islands ASA students are most interested in learning to sail on a catamaran and requests for monohull sailboats aren’t common! There are a few reasons catamarans are the most common type of chartered sailing yacht in the Virgin Islands. First, catamarans are generally more stable and a bit easier to learn to sail on than a monohull. Secondly, ASA 114 certification is only available on catamarans. Generally, Go Sail offers ASA 114 as part of our Series 1 (beginner) ASA courses, however, if you choose to charter a monohull this option won’t be available to you.
If you are passionate about learning to sail on a monohull though, don’t let the preference for catamarans vs monohulls in the Virgin Islands deter you! Monohulls can be a fun option if you have never sailed on one before and are looking for a unique sailing experience in the Virgin Islands.
Go Sail Virgin Islands offers the option to rent out an entire monohull sailboat for your ASA lessons or bareboat charter in the British Virgin Islands! We do not offer group sailing courses aboard monohull sailboats in the British Virgin Islands, any monohull sailing courses in the US Virgin Islands, or monohull bareboat charters in the US Virgin Islands at this time, due to lack of demand.
