Choosing Between a Catamaran vs Monohull Sailboat

Most Virgin Islands ASA students are most interested in learning to sail on a catamaran and requests for monohull sailboats aren’t common! There are a few reasons catamarans are the most common type of chartered sailing yacht in the Virgin Islands. First, catamarans are generally more stable and a bit easier to learn to sail on than a monohull. Secondly, ASA 114 certification is only available on catamarans. Generally, Go Sail offers ASA 114 as part of our Series 1 (beginner) ASA courses, however, if you choose to charter a monohull this option won’t be available to you.

If you are passionate about learning to sail on a monohull though, don’t let the preference for catamarans vs monohulls in the Virgin Islands deter you! Monohulls can be a fun option if you have never sailed on one before and are looking for a unique sailing experience in the Virgin Islands

Go Sail Virgin Islands offers the option to rent out an entire monohull sailboat for your ASA lessons or bareboat charter in the British Virgin Islands! We do not offer group sailing courses aboard monohull sailboats in the British Virgin Islands, any monohull sailing courses in the US Virgin Islands, or monohull bareboat charters in the US Virgin Islands at this time, due to lack of demand.

Why Choose Go Sail Virgin Islands

Go Sail Virgin Islands has formed relationships with the most reputable catamaran charter companies in the Virgin Islands so we can offer you an unparalleled sailing experience in the British Virgin Islands and US Virgin Islands. Our monohull sailing yachts rarely give sailors issues and their reliability is a major reason sailors choose to sail with us over the competition! We want your focus to be on sailing, not fixing issues aboard your sailboat in the Virgin Islands.

Advanced-People

ASA Courses Aboard Our Premium Monohull Sailing Yachts

Learn to sail in the Virgin Islands with Series 1 (beginner) sailing courses or hone your skills with Series 2 (advanced) sailing courses! If you choose to sail on a monhull with Go Sail Virgin Islands, your Series 1 ASA courses will include ASA 101, ASA 103, and ASA 104 certifications. Series 2 ASA courses include ASA 106 and ASA 118 certifications. These monohull sailing courses are only available in the British Virgin Islands by booking out an entire vessel. ASA 114 certifications are not available with the monohull sailing courses

Would you rather learn to sail on a monohull sailboat rather than a catamaran? Students booking out an entire vessel with Go Sail Virgin Islands can choose between catamarans, monohulls, and trimarans for receiving their ASA certifications! Go Sail’s courses aboard a monohull offer the same great hands-on instruction, however, keep in mind you will not receive your ASA 114, cruising catamaran certification aboard a monohull.
